    Dark Coolant

Dark Coolant means you have a leak some were right??

If you remember I changed my heater core out before winter, replaced all my hoses and flushed my system out. The coolant stayed perfect until now. I noticed it was dark brown instead of green. Its not oily or milky. I looked at my thermostat housing and noticed the gasket is all messed up an there was coolant dripping off it. So I think I am going to go buy a new one, and re flush my system.

i thought you were supposed to use the ''red'' coolant with newer engines....

but when in doubt, pull it out....

wouldnt hurt to change the gasket and flush it

How long was the coolant in the system? The green stuff is only made to last a 2 years/200,000 miles and then it is suppose to be replaced.
    Step 1. crus at it.
    Step 2. get a hammer.
    Step 3. torch it.

Never leave green in for 200K miles. It's more like 2 years and 50K miles. If you already have red like the truck and the engine both were designed for and it's dark there is an issue.

For over the road trucks with cat engines we replace green at that interval and extended life at 6 years 600,000 miles.

I get the 50/50 green because the mechinest who does the head work around town told me to use it. The dex stuff leaves a nice build up on everything. It's been in for less then a year.

I would think the only part of his system that isn't stock to the motor & water pump is the radiator. OBS radiator made of something different that would react to the new style coolant?

A 98 shoud have had an al-you-min-eeeum radiator with plastic tanks like a newer whatever his 6.0 came from.

Weird but sometimes grounds can cause stuff like this too.
