    Transgo washers? How many?

I'm going to have my local trans shop install my HD-2 kit soon and I was wondering how many washers you guys normally do so I can tell them? Also I don't have the money to get the whole kit installed (part where the trans has to get removed) so am I ok for just having them do the valvebody stuff for right now?

Do one washer, it wont shift hard if you still have TM in your tune.

I don't install any washers, if it's too hard, you'll be tearing it back down, if it's not, you simply increase pcm line pressure.

Depending on which housing you have one washer might be needed. In the later housing the gold spring seat is not supported correctly and could bend. Basically only being supported by the pin area of the housing. In the early housing the outer edge of the spring seat is supported by the housing so no washer's are required. Vince

I have the later and installed one washer not because of the spring retainer bending but concern over the tolerance seemed a little excessive compared to the pin boss....as in the additional spring force might force the retainer past the boss. I tuned the 1-2 force WAY down (10% to 30% of stock) so it's been liveable. But I was tentatively planning on going back in and removing the washer but adding a smaller thinner washer that would fit inside the retainer recess with the tighter tolerance on pin (acting as backing plate to retainer). You raise a point though that I hadn't considered a problem until now...the strength of the out edges of spring retainer. The backing washer I was planning would reinforce some but question is will it be enough considering it was only going to extend to the circumference of the recess? Or do I get a handfull of similar size washers to the three Transgo washers and drill the ID to the size of the lower part of the pin....stack enough washers to near boss height...and then add spring retainer (maybe also drilled to lower slightly). Effectively the force is distributed to the bottom of the case instead of the pin boss and the spring retainer edges are completely supported. Thoughts?

i installed 2 in mine back in 06 when i was auto. I also had the vac modulator backed with a 3800 stall.

a large stall will soften some of the shift. i think the instructions even say if you have a loose vert install more washers so it shifts hard

I guess in my case I am looking to go at or less spring pressure than zero washers so I could put some of the 1-2 pressure back into the tune (all the numbers range from 10% to 30% of the original stock to keep from breaking the tires loose).
