Thread: My Nelso Tune

Hybrid View

1. #1
Since most people post about their tunes, I thought I would take a minute to post about mine. I drove down to SA on Thursday night so that I could have Allen tune my truck first thing Friday morning. I drove from Dallas and averaged 13.5mpg with my cruise set to 73mph. After the tune I immediately drove back to Dallas and the truck averaged 17.3mpg with the cruise set to 85mph! I ws expecting maybe 2mpg better so I was shocked. The truck runs great and hopefully with more miles on it, it will get even better. The only performance mod on my truck is a K&N replacement filter. This was definately a mod!
Thx,
Roli

I'm sure if you did an emissions test before and after, you would see an improvement there too. Not that that(sniffer test) makes much difference but LS1s are amazing all around!

HOLY SHIT! LOL, that even suprises me, hahahaha.

You now have the top spot for the best gas mileage increase ever, I mean ever! Even from every other competitor I've heard about.

That is a great gain, who cares if it runs better, lol, I would just be happy with the gas mileage increase, ahahah

btw, you have a very nice truck, the stance look great,

nice meeting you,

What tune did you get, an 87 or 91 octane? And did you get any special parameters recalibrated?

With the price of gas that was a great mod for the money. How much did you save on just the return trip?

Allen,
Nice meeting you as well. Keep in mind that the mpg gain was on the highway. I've yet to calculate it in the city yet but will soon. Thanks for the compliments on my truck. I need to take a few pics of it soon.

99 red silver,
I didn't pay attention to what I saved in gas but here is an example. On the way down I filled up in Dallas and made it all the way to SA but had about 1/4 tank left. I filled up that night in SA, went to Allen's shop for the tune. We took the truck out and I got on it hard a couple of times so he could monitor engine parameters. Finished up the tune and then I immediately drove home on that same tank that I had filled up the night before. I got to Dallas (avg 17.3mpg) and the gas gauge was measuring just shy of the half mark. Who knows, it may of been even better had we not driven the truck hard during the tuning process. As I was driving back home I had the information center on the dash set to display how many miles I had left until I ran out of gas. I swear the thing was taking forever to go down. I knew the mileage had to of gone way up then.

diamondd2,
I got the 87 tune. Allen said the 93 tune would net better mileage but I opted for the 87 anyway. Keep in mind that I told him from the get go that I was not too concerned with gaining power. My truck weighs about 6K pounds so I know it is not going to be fast. I told him I just wanted better gas mileage. I got 12.5mpg in the CITY prior to his tune. I'm hoping for atleast 15mpg now.
Thx,
Roli
