    port and polish 862's?

are the 5.3 862 casting heads worth port and polishing?

i also have a set of ls6 valves int and ext, are they bigger than the 862 heads valves?

i currently have a set 862 heads, ls6 yellow springs and valves, locks, retainers, seals....

ive been thinkin bout port and polishing the heads and putting the ls6 valves in them if it is worth it.

    just looking for some guidance

The LS-6 intake valves are 2.00" and the 5.3 valves are 1.89". The exhaust valves are the same size.

The cost to port/polish your heads and install larger valves (if they'll fit) would probably be more than buying the LS-1 heads from Patriot, which would probably flow better.

Plus, if you have true LS-6 valves (sodium filled), they are longer than other LS-series valves, so you'll need shorter push rods.

I would get the Patriot heads and sell off the parts you have - you'd probably be money ahead.
Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

ok i just found out i dont have ls6 valves and springs they are out of and ls2, so what does that make the valve sizes?...2.00 still?

are they longer...or they same length as the 862 head valves?

well the parts i have are free(as long as i replace them with my stock take offs), and i know the 862's will end up in a higher compression ratio, ive heard the 862 will produce a good flowing head with a little work,

plus i figure it will be just as easy to swap heads than swap springs while the heads are still in the truck while doing a cam swap

OK, if you know what you're going to do, why are you asking for input?

have them ported and polished, have new valves put in 2.02's if youre gonna go that far into it, might as well do it all the way... throw a big cam in there and be done!!!

I'd much rather swap springs with the engine assembled in the truck than swap heads...
