    06 2500 Hd

This isn't a kill yet, but I'm just calling bull****. A guy I know in SC is a dnr officer and says he has a programmer on his diesel 06 2500 ext. cab. How possible is it that he has 500+ horsepower under the hood. That's all the mods he has. He said his speedo is out the dash at about 1/4. I'm thinking either his full of crap or his speedo goes to like 85 or something. What's your take on the situation?

Oh and he said "he gets 19-20 mpg's on the highway.

    Does anyone else call B.S.

It's mid 300's stock. It is possible close to 500 at the crank with some very edgy programming. It's possible to get 18+ MPG too but I'm not sure it would modded. I think the exhaust and air intake would need done to get the numbers he claims at minimum.

I do know that if I were you, I would get a bottle if you want to beat him. or at least headers cam and lower gears.
Right now your runnig about 15.6-16.3 in the 1/4. He is runnning about 14.5. Also get him to show you a dyno sheet or tell him to shut up.

Ha I need all those things but college doesn't pay well right now, and I'm not racing him yet. I just wanted to know what ya'll thought about what he said. You're right jeff I'm gonna tell him he needs some papers to talk. What kinda hp and times would I be looking at for a mild cam, LTs and a new nelson (mail order) tune with my stock 3.73.

i have seen plenty of dmaxes hit low 500hp at the wheels with good tuning, but you need and lift pump to support that kind of fuel and a trany to hold it. if he has say a ppe hot +2 500hp isnt hard to believe, i have seen some dynos show high 400s with the ppes on first gen duramaxes but with lift pump of course. but if he doesn't have a trans its not gona last long. and i haven't even heard of anyone doing it without some extra fuel pressure, so i dont know how much that would affect his tuning.

so overall, i still call bs, but its not as far off as some of you think. and for the record i easily get 20+ mpg highway with my d max. its easy to underestimate the performance of these truck because they weigh so much it doesn't show up like it would on your half tons.

i just re read it, and yes its perfectly believable to have over 500 CRANK hp on just a tune on a dmax. ppe claims 425 CRANK hp extra on the hot tune for the lbz so that would make around 775 crank for what they claim, so still take away 275hp for false claims and you still have 500 crank. so if were talking crank, which i never do, then yes i have no problem at all believing over 500. btw thats also a claimed 1270 ft lbs, so once agian i doubt these numbers are accurate but still, the point is that truck is capable of some serious power with "just a tune". if you do get a cam and headers and all though, you probably will beat him depending on his cab/bed set up and if he has 4x4 simply because of weight, in fact it wont even matter if he doesnt do something about the trany because it will surely let go after any driving at those power levels.
