So where is a good place to mount a winch on a stock 05 1500 in the back or front and where?

The ones that hooks into your receiver hitch are pretty sweet, can use it in the front or back. You'd have to go with a different front bumper I guess?

either a different front bumper or a grill guard that is designed to hold a winch. i would always put it on the front but the kind that can be front or back are awesome.

I use a bolt-together 3 piece receiver hitch (I'd never trust one of those on the rear at all)I got from work for $30, cut it down and threw it on the front. Works great! I was worried it was gonna hang down too much and catch on everything but its actually higher than my factory tow hooks.
