Now that I've been to the track and driven the truck for a while I realize a posi or locker is definitly necessary. I was wondering if the stock posi is decent and maybe I could save some money by grabbing a posi rear out of a junkyard. Or is the stock posi on obs 1-tons any good?

If I don't go that route what is the best unit to get?
    1 ton, 4600 pounds, 14.3@94mph any questions?

The stock G80 is no good for racing. It unlocks to a one wheel peel over 20mph. Eaton or Auburn is what you need. I have had no problems with my Auburn and you can definetly tell the differance in grip.

I've heard the G80 is no good for racing but just wasn't sure if it was the same thing that the general used back in 88 on the obs 1 ton trucks or if it is more of a true posi?

You are right. The G80 showed up in the late 90's I'm pretty sure. I have a '93 blazer that has the true clutch posi in it. So I bet the 88 is ok as long as the clutches still grip.
I think Eaton came up with the G80 for GM for cost reduction....

all G80's are not the same. the g80 option in my F body is a
true limited slip posi with clutchs and will spin street tires a
good 330' if I wanted too. And the new G80 locker is made
    by Eaton.

i would say go aftermarket on a posi and get OEM gears... thats the way i did it, and no problems here...

but as with any install of that sort, having a reputable installer is most important...
    still waiting...
