OK, this may sound stupid but I'm young(17) and a motorcycle guy, so I don't have much experience with 8 cyclinders. When I am idling my oil pressure is around 30 or so And when driving it is at 40 or a little below. I know that stock gauges are innaccurate but is this jump normal. The motor is a 6.0 running 5w-30 mobil 1 synthetic with 184,000 miles.

Any ideas?

quite normal. It also depends on oil temp. When cold will be higher.
Old rule of thumb is atleast 10 pounds per 1k rpm, but we usually
see like you about 30 at idle and up to 60-70 cruising. Also
low oil pressure is usually caused by wear in the main bearings on the crank
shaft.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense. I'm learning new stuff everyday. Another question. Would it be a good idea to go through the motor and trans now before I start reaching for more power or just wait till something goes wring. Like I said earlier the truck has 184k

thanks.

For pressure to be that low your bearings must be pretty well worn.

I'd look about for a lower milage used pull out. You can get one for <$1000 usually.
