    Muffler question from a noob.

I'm looking at the muffler on my 2K 'Ho, 5.3, and if I'm measuring right, it looks like it has one 3" in and two 3" outs that converger back into one tail pipe. What is the point in this and if I want to replace the muffler can I go with a single in and out or do I need to stick with the single in and dual out?

    Thanks.

you can do what ever you want to do. Depends on what you want it to sounds like, where and if you want it to exit, tips, ect.

i never had the stocker, but i just put on a Single inlet dual outlet on mine sounds really good now that the headers are on.

I'm looking to keep the stocker configuration but get something with better flow and just a little more rumble, nothing too loud.

Thanks guys. Am I correct about the pipe size, 3" in and 3" out? My Dodge pickup had a smaller pipe, I had a 3" pipe put on from just past the cat all the way back when I replaced the muffler on it but if the 'Ho already has a 3" pipe before and after all I'd need to do is replace the muffler. I could even have my kid do that in shop class once school starts.

i couldnt tell you for sure, i know mine was 3", the only real way is to measure it with a caliper or a tape measure or string and get the circumference of the pipe and figure out the diameter, and yes it would be as simple as cutting out the old and putting in the new. theres TONS of choices out there, and moze's borlas sounded damn sweet on his truck.

The stocker is 3" in, but I am not sure about the outlet diameter. It may be 2.5". You could go with any style of performance muffler really. Just replace the muffler and keep the stock tailpipe. The Magnaflows flow the best...IMHO. That is the next muffler I will purchase...if I decide to rework my exhaust...

Spintech's flow better than Magnaflow. And Borla's are straight through - how does the Magnaflow flow better monkey?

Well, for starters, Magnaflow is a straight through design also. And I have seen stats somewhere that prove that they flow better than most of the major Muffler manufacturers. I am not sure if Magnaflow was tested against a Spintech, but I know they flow better than Flowmasters...

vote for magnaflow here, but do the cat back not just the muffler. it installs so easy and looks much better. and you get a nice tip as well.
