    Greetings from China Lake, CA

I just picked up a 2003 ext-cab Z71 Silverado last weekend. My old truck is an '83 GMC with a Vortec motor and TBI EFI, so this site is a great resource for me to learn about the Gen III motors.

Welcome! You are gunna love that truck--and the Gen III motor. They are easy to mod and extremely reliable. The Gen III motors are so much different from what you are used to, so throw most of the knowledge out the door. These motors are easy to work on and mod. What all are you wanting to know?

Just searching through the board looking for good beginning mods. I picked up a K&N intake kit on sale last weekend, so that was my first mod. The truck had a clunk in the steering, which I found on the board to be a intermediate shaft, UPS dropped off the shaft today and that problem has been resolved.

China Lake huh? I was out there in January. Nice place.

Welcome! You are in the right place to learn. The guys here will go out of their way to help. You have the CAI now you need LT headers and a performance tune. It will make that 5.3 come alive.

Yeah, I have been looking at headers but since I am in CA the long tubes probably aren't an option.

I used to do some part-time work with The Other Guys headers, so I could probably get a set of those made (even though they are out of business), but their EO # only covered up to 2001.

I picked up a Diablo from a friend of mine for a really great deal, so I think that will work for tuning for now. Once I get all my mods on I will look at going to get a dyno tune.

Any recommendations on a cat-back exhaust? I have always been partial to Flowmaster, but is a complete exhaust worth the money or should I just do a muffler and tailpipe?

You can do some LTs, but you would have to get a custom Y-pipe and cats built for it. You could do some high flow Magnaflow cats in the y-pipe, plus a Magnaflow muffler into duals... Prolly the best setup for what you want to do...
