    Power Steering Pump Out...

... just wondering how easy it is to replace and more importantly purge after it's all put back together. Anybody ever replaced one on a newer GM truck? Just looks like it may be a pain in the ass, any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Easy. Go rent the special pulley puller for the P/S pump frm O'Rielly's. Then disconnect the lines, being careful not to drip P/S fluid everywhere. Then unbolt it from the bracket. It's that easy.

You must have had good luck, mine ended up being a pain in the butt. Definately get that pulley remover, but on mine, i had to remove the alternator, and that bracket to get to the bolt behind the pump, that held it to the block and that held some what looked like ground wires on, took me about 2 hours to get it off and on again.

I figured i'd have to move the alternator and the bracket as I remeber all that stuff from when I put the 408 in, but i just left the pump ass'y together, hoses and all, and just slumped it over the fender. Probably start this project in a week or so, truck is hard as hell to turn and this is in the way of my new cam install... or I might do both of them at once.

Since you'll be taking the whole front of your motor off anyway, might as well go ahead and do the P/S pump at the same time.

there was a time where i was really good at replacing those had it down to lik 35 min total lol but the p/s pulley puller is a great thing its not bad at all. Take the 4 15mm bolts out of the main bracket and 1 17mm bolt off the side of the block and pull the whole thing off to work on it though it makes things much better
