I am looking to put a 5.3 in my truck and was wondering if you could put a t56 behind it. I think that it would bolt ok. My main concern would be the wiring. Does anybondy have any insight. I was thinking about doing a lt1 with a t56 but it is hard to find a low mileage one, under 20K. Also who do you recomend anymore since Dynatech is no longer a option?

    Thanks

Thanks, I would like to finalize my decision soon. I would like to do the 5.3L with a t56 but haven't seen anything like it so I thought I would ask. Is the 5.3L rebuildable if it would ever have to be. I think I remember reading that the LS1 is only rebuildable for .005 over or something like that and then that is it. Is this the same with the 5.3L?

I don't know for sure exactly how much you can overbore the ls1 but the iron sleeves in the aluminun block are your limiting factor. Since the 5.3 is an iron block, you can safely overbore (up to a certain extent.) Hope this helps.

Yeah, I emailed speartech and he said that it is possible to mate the two and he can make a wiring harness for $750. I would like to find a cheaper option than that if I could. Thanks for the boring information. I think that a 5.3L with T56 would be a neat combination.

Hi,Jerr. I'm Jim,(new member 70cst/ls1). I did my conversion about 2yr. ago. I used a 700r4 behind the 5.3. I used the 5.3 dished flexplate with the700r4 t/converter and made a pilot extension to mate the converter snout into the crank flange. Because the crank flange in a 5.3 is recesed into the block .400 from the bellhousing bolt surface you can't bolt a manual flywheel to it. 5.3 is the only one like this. 4.8 5.7 6.0 are no problem t56 bolts right up. hope this helps.

Hey Jim, you did exactly the swap I am wanting to do!!! 5.3 with a 700r4 (possible the th-350 I already have for now) in my 1968 C10 l/b. Can you tell me everything I am going to run into please! I have a 2000/2001 5.3 motor from a wrecked chevy with all assesories, computer, and full harness. ANY information you can give me would be appreciated.

I realize that I am going to have to eliminate some things from the harness like the VATS, O2 sensors, EGR and then have the PCM flashed. Do you know what wiring needs to be done and where a good place to get the PCM flashed is?

I'd also like to know how you mated the trans and if you had to get a different driveshaft!

    Lots of questions.

Email me if you like: houseoftorque@hushmail.com

    Thanks for your time,
    Taylor Sims
