    So annoyed..

So I went down to exotic customs and they installed an eaton posi in my truck earlier this week. I asked him what he set the backlash at and tthey told me they set it back to stock. I drove it home that day and everything was fine, then the next day it started making this awful whining noise/moaning noise. So I went up there today and they took a look at it, and said the backlash had somehow gotten knocked out and it was at .40 or close to that. So they reset it and told me that the ring and pinion might make some small noise driving back, but thats just it making new grooves or w/e. Well Its not too loud coming back, or as loud as it was. But right when I get off the highway it just starts making the same noises and just as loud. He told me if it starts making loud noises again, to come back and he will install a new ring and pinion. I am just tired of driving an hour just to get there... Any ideas/comments about this would be nice..

Gears are burnt. Sux man but you have to have a new ring and pinion, once the noise starts it is too late. I had some trouble with the first couple rear ends that I set up in the newer trucks.

But what I dont get is that once he set it in and everything was done, why did the backlash just jump out of what he set it at?

unless they're not tightening down the main caps well enough, then i dont know whats happening. maybe he just doesnt know how to set them up?

they may have set the pinion bearing preload to tight and crushed down the crush sleeve to muc and tried to back it off to lesson the preload, but once the sleeve is crushed it has to be taken back apart and replaced.

That will cause the backlash setting to move around and burn up the gears. Also might not have torqued down the diferental caps to tight. or just hit them with the impact.

A lot of stuff could be wrong, might want to ask for your money back and they replace the R&P, and or find a new shop to do the gear swap.

I just called and they wont be able to get the gears in until mon/tuesday. I dunno he is gonna replace it for free so thats nice. Its just the drive down there that really annoys me. I should still be able to drive my truck even with this piece of **** making all these noises right?

Smart man. I never go with the lowest bid.
Never ever. Low bid means cut corners. No thanks.
