I thought my trans was pretty cool before, but all day today, Joe showed me step by step on whats needed to be done to a tranny to make it last. (i didn't retain much, lol, but it was an experience).
We went thru the entire trans and did a complete rebuild. There wasn't really anything wrong with the trans, but with the shootout coming up we figured it was a good idea to go thru it, since I'll be spraying the 150shot.
We did find something that required attention , which caused the need to replace the third clutch pack assembly. The others held up so good, we just decided to go witht the 9pack HD clutch pack again.
Joe also reworked the parts that are responsible for 3rd gear. 3rd feels great now, I can still get a 110mph scratch, but it feels different, smoother and quicker (when it doesn't scratch, hehe).
Any hot rodder would love to have my second gear shift. The engagement is smooth and very unnoticable. It feels like a continous gear, that's how smooth it is. But at wot, hold on, becuase it hits great.
He also fixed up the 4th gear shift. It's very quick and firm.

For those who don't know, I've been dogging this trans for over a year and spraying on it. At the track i run slicks and there's no wheel spin, so that's a lot of abuse launching with the nos, and it was still holding up.
This was all done with the four gear planetaries too. The 5 gears are far superior and very nice to have, but for those who have the four gear assembly, they WILL HOLD! I also have the hardened input shaft/shell/drum, so i'm sure that helped keep the trans together. Add a few hard parts, like the sprag and that's all I have, oh ya including the shift kit and kevlar 2/4 band. So, before you go out and buy all those expensive ass parts, make sure you're buying what's really needed.
It's easy to get overwhelmed with all those cool parts from transmission center.net , but most are useless and only few are needed to have a built trans.
If you want details, call joe at jagperformance (sponsor) and i'm sure he'll be glad to answer any questions.

I still can't get over how awesome the trans feels. It's very calm during normal driving and it's a beast at wot.

I can't wait to spray and hopefully, the 150 gets me a 11.9 sec.

later,

allen

Sounds awesome. That would be nice to have. Stock sucks. It would be nice to actually feel a firm (non shuddering) shift come from my stock trans.

That's is exactly why I will be bringing my SS down there SOON. Joe is also going to slip in the Pro Truck 3000 while he is in there. Tired of it sitting in the garage.

We basically blueprinted my trans, so have him do it just like that,. The 3rd spring assembly is awesome, the trans kicks down into third immediately, no wait time.
It just must be in my head, but the truck feels faster and smoother too.

I LOVE IT!!!!

What would it cost to have Joe do this to a stock tranny?

First... Joe does badass work! I'd recommend him hands down!

What can you tell me about the 3-4 shift... Was the 4th accumulator blocked? 4th feed hole opened to .120"? And the 3-4 check ball?

LOL sorry just looking for some info as I picked up another 4L60E to go through myself...
