Did the gear swap and the theory paid off..

Well let me tell you my story... About a month back i bought some 26" slicks for my truck thinking i was automatically going to run faster then my 9.54... well after mounting the tires and going to the track i noticed a huge difference and not in a good way... turns out my truck was shifting in 3rd gear before i was even hitting the 330 mark at the 1/8th track...

Well after doing some math i we decided to do a gear swap so out the 4.10's went

and then we slapped in some 3.73's and went back to the track with the 26" slicks we did the math and it added up to close to a 4.10's with those small tires and we finally got back on track where we were before the slicks as far as time... when we slapped on the 22's tire to gear ratio puts it back at 3.73's we gained better gas mileage so i got the best of both worlds now! We we're kind of lucky on timing because after inspecting on the pinion bearing it was starting to get brittle or loose so we dont know how much longer it would of lasted..

Any way make things short I busted out the best 60ft 2.033, best 330 6.080 , and time 9.47 for the 4.8L extended cab...

I ve learned that tire to gear ratio is very vital ingredent to a good quicker time at the track and w/slicks.... I was basically hot lapping and kept getting faster times before i just called it quits. We'll be slapping a cam this month and custom PcM tune... and see where thats going to take us.. before i consider throwing a bottle at it..

Good stuff! Yeah, after a certain point, hot lapping is a waste of gas... It is important to watch your shift points while at the track..shifting=lost time. Once you get a cam and tune, you will be able to get more power out of each shift... What size cam you looking at?

LOL. Agreed--that cam does seem like a lower RPM cam to go along with your higher RPM mods. Why not do a higher lift--around .550??

im having good luck with my 4.10's...i think its a decent cam for an extended cab 4.8. a 224 or something like that would act like butt with the smaller motor and weight.

    old mod list: H/C/I/N/E/G 408
new mod list: 5.3, gears/posi, mufler and tune : (

I might go that route when i'm ready to upgrade to roller rockers with a 1.8 ratio...
