    Post 5.3 to 5.7 build-up

I'm planning to build a 5.3 into a 5.7 iron block with my students as a class project. Will the 5.7 piston create too much compression to run 87 octane fuel with a LQ9 camshaft? Also what is the best gear ratio to run, a 3.23 or a 3.42 for my chevy crew cab. I have a spare engine if anybody looking for one. I can let it go for a decent price. Just let me know.
