How much power can the stock 5 speed take?

OK, im looking at buying a 2005 RCSB with the 4.8L/5 speed manual, and was wanting to find out what kiind of power levels the stock trans can hold up to. This is going to be my daily driver, and i really only plan a few bolt on upgrades, like intake and exhaust and will probably get some sort of tuning software, and want to put in a stock 2007 electric fan setup.

But down the road id like to either swap in a 5.3 or most likely a 6.0 with either a turbo or s/c.

Also how hard is it to do a T56 swap on one of these trucks?

You should also consider how much power your clutch can handle.

I'm pretty sure they are rated around 300 torque. Do a quick google search

    CTS-V FAQ: List Style FAQ

Our Tranny is the New Venture 3500.......

My clutch Maxed out at 301 hp and 285 ft/lbs of torque, on a easily driven 21000 mile clutch...You can see the dip in the dyno results... Then it just Slipped like crazy, and you could smell it.

I too want to do the T56 Tranny swap, there's one other guy on here, that i know of that has done it.. It doesn't seem to be Tooo hard, as long as you get the Tranny out of an LS1 motor. The hardest part i think is going to be the relocating of the shifter.

Just out of curiousity, on the 04-05 Joe Gibbs Silverados, where you could get the 4.8L 5 speed and the supercharger, did they put in a different 5 speed trans, or is it the stocker that all V8 5 speed trucks would have gotten?

I believe it is the same NV3500, but with a better clutch.

Its not worth the 500$ bucks though, just to get the stg 2 clutch pack, and tranny upgrade, because there's just going to be another loose link. I'd say, either go with the T56 which you should beable to find with some searching for around 1000 or get an nv4500, But then you'll still have a 5 speed, and in the end its not going to be worth it. Another option, would be to switch to an automatic. Just comes down to personal preff, and what you can afford.

Does anyone honestly think GM or Joe Gibbs have gone out of their way to remove the transmission to upgrade the clutch? I don't hardly think so.

You probably wouldn't be very happy with the nv4500, The first gear is really steep. Save for a t56 or swap to an auto.

yeah if i want an auto ill just buy an auto truck, and im thinking the T56 swap wouldnt be that hard, moving the shifter would be the hardest part i think.

    Thanks for the help guys.
