OK so it's not an LT1 but it's an LT1 tranny. So As some of you might remember I became a member of this site a few months ago, and I posted about doing a T56 swap into a 1997 Suburban. Well, I started tonight, I got the 4lcrapyE out and I will be installing the tranny tomorrow. I already have the clutch pedal and master cylinder in, so the rest is easy. I will be updating everyone as it progresses. But as long as I don't run into any major speed bumps tomorrow, I should be driving it by tomorrow night. I have tons and TONS of PICS of the entire swap. I will be starting up a website very soon, and I will post them all there. Thats it for now, more to come tomorrow.

It's in, and it lugs a little off the line do to the 3.73's. But once you get going, it HAULS! That tranny really woke it up, gets the power down quicker and it doesn't slip like a 4L60. Plus the gear ratios are awsome. The install went pretty smooth. Only ran into 3 major problems, but they were easy fixes. First problem was the starter had to be replaced with an LT1 starter do to the flywheel being smaller. It was easy, just costly. Second problem was the cross member, but it was an easy fix just required some fabricating. Third was a little bit harder, for some reason my stock yolk on the drive shaft has a small hole in it basically at the most inside part where the end of the tailshaft is. So since the T56 has an oil valley that runs through the center of the shaft it was leaking ATF out the hole. I don't know why the hole was there but it was easally fixed with a little welding. So the end product is exactly what I had hoped for. I just need to get the 4.56's installed soon, but it is a blast to drive. I will have more info and pics soon. I am working on setting up a website for all the info.

I used a stock master form a 90 Fullsize pickup with a 5 speed. And that is where I got the pedal from too.

Did you get a Tremec T-56 or just a normal T-56?

What did you do for your shifter?

Since the shifter comes out of the tailshaft that would seem like the shifter would be too far back once you try to put it into the cab of the truck.

the T-56s from the LT1 are usually made by Borg-Warner.

I do know that but I was told that you can get what is called a Tremec T-56 that has 9 different shifter locations.

I just wondered how mrplow mounted his shifter and where it is located inside the cab.

I would also like to know where the shifter was located as well. Is it true that the tremec T-56 can come with 9 different shifter locations? I am planning on an LT1 or LS1 plus a T-56 swap in my 95 automatic as well. The drive shaft linked right up!?!?
