My truck was originally a 4.8 and now it is an ls1, i had to shorten the steering shaft bolt because it was rubbing the header. And on the passenger side the header is rubbing the frame rail.....has anyone else had these issues, could it be weak motor mounts??

mine hits as well, from what ive heard that is very common. also my steering shaft is rubbing but i think its motor mounts issues on that one. im replacing the crumple zone(ridges) in the shaft with a straight 1 inch piece of stainless steel to fix the problem.

I fixed the steering shaft problem by shortening the bolt that goes through it, but the header hitting the frame isnt good....I wouldnt think the motor mounts would be bad or weak, aluminum engine should be lighter. If I cannot cure it then motor mounts will be put in. I pulled it over with a ratchet strap earlier and sprung it a little so now I have some clearance but not enough for when I get on it, it twist right into it.

thanks for the reply and keep em coming maybe someone else has encountered this!!

Well you could nitch the frame rail and then fill in the nitch with a curved piece of metal. But you would have to beef up that area of the rail a little bit.

This sounds like it would work but i do not know about safety or strength. Just an idea.

Why dont you just get your headers really hot and bend the headers at the collector with a large piece of exhaust pipe. I did that to a set of hookers i had and it worked pretty good. just be careful that if you pry on the runners that you dont kink them any.

I have heard nothing but good about pacesetters too. Makes me kind of glad that i took a gamble and got a set of stainless LT headers by a lesser known company. I didnt have any fit issues other than needing different spark plug wires for #5 and #7 but i kind of expected that to be the case as with almost all headers i have dealt with.

I would return them. I attemtped to put them on my truck 4x4 with 5.3 and they fit perfectly but the broken bolt kept me from keeping them on. "the bolt in my head"

I actually got it, I sprung them just a little with a ratchet strap while the ory clamps were loose, then i tightened the clamps before i let the pressure off. It still was extremely close so i then went and purchased a polyurathane tranny mount with three holes in it and pryed the tranny over about 1/2in and mounted in the left hole of the mount, I now have about 1/2 clearance between the header and the frame!!

    works like a charm!
