My first converter was a TCI.. Not sure of the exact model but was a HD Truck Converter and supposed to be a 3K stall... From day #1 I could stall my truck anywhere from 3500 to 4K RPM'S and just really loose.. Wasn't happy at all, truck stayed redlined at WOT, tranny ran really hot.. Anyway, I'm running a Vigilante 3200 now and am in love.. It's quite a bit more out of your pocket but definitely worth the money.. It has held up to numerous 6 psi AWD launches and that's saying alot for a 6K lb. truck..
2004 SSS.. Force Fed 408.. STS @ 10psi.. Best 1/8th was a 7.35 @ 91mph and a 1.69 60' at Kennedale.. All made possible by TRT Performance, Arlington TX..

Yeah, that was me.. Small world huh? Hopefully won't be blowing any more oil, just was a lack of crankcase ventilation.... Snapped the output shaft on my tranny so just waiting for a replacement, should be out this week sometime, hopefully.. That night I met y'all was the only time I ran it at the track on 10 psi, the 7.35 was with a shitty launch and my tranny slipping.. I should see 6's now, I exchanged the converter for a 3200 instead of 2800 and had tranny upgraded a little, ported throttle body, shortened push rods, plug wires and a couple other minor things so I'll be back at the track shortly.. Do y'all go often? We should try to meet up again... Let me know the next time you plan on going..

what posi are you going with? I'm running the Auburn Pro Series and its badass. Excellent traction and drift on demand haha. Not to mention its been in a year and if what i've been doing hasn't broken it yet... it'll be awhile.

I would recommend you not use the TCI converter. First off for normal street use it will just boil the ATF, you need a lot more ATF cooler than with other brands of converters, TCIs run hot. And for race use they aren't predictable enough. In a Ext Cab application you really need to think hard before installing a converter that stalls higher than 3000-RPM, I would not recommend going above that. Remember that after a certain point in stall speed the truck will get slower 1/4-m times because of the lost efficiency in the upper rpms.

Arent race predictible?? huh?? If it wasnt why would TCI be selling it in the first place especially considering how long they have been in the business...??

Your right about the transmission fluid; but as long as your not in constant stop and go traffic you should be fine. if you get a transmission cooler which i was told by John at TCI

run a trans cooler a mild trans kit like b&m, traction bars, with a posi rear maybe upgrade to 30spline axels and you could run your 3000 stall all day no prob. that other guy is right 3000 rpm stall is not practicle for every day use stop and go. maybe if you ran a 4L80e you could get away with it those tranny's can handle the abuse but a stocker 4l60 u might run into problems, or just get a lower stall speed and match up a good cam like a 1800 rpm - 6300 rpm cam with a 2500 stall you would hit the launch within your powerband.
