At a steady 70mph cruise 3.73 will run about 2000-2100 rpm and 4.10 will be closer to the 2400-2600 rpm range. But to be sure you can jack up the rear end and make a mark on the drive shaft and the diff while lining up a mark near the bottom of your tire and the ground. Now spin the tire 10 complete revolutions while counting the # of complete revolutions the shaft makes. For a 4.10 the shaft should make 40 revolutions to the 10 reolutions of the tire, for a 3.73 it should be around 37-38 revolutions. I am pretty sure this is the correct way of doing it without opening up the diff.
Its pretty obvious you have an open diff. (no posi)

Perhaps a Nelson tune is what you are needing?

Considering how sluggish u said it acts pulling up hills u may be running 3.42 gear alot of the 4.8 5speed trucks came that way. I know my truck in particular came that away. You wont believe what a 93 octane tune will do for that 4.8

As far as the abuse factor I think there junk Ive destroyed mine twice first time my warranty covered it and this last time its had to come out of my own pocket which im just now able to fix. Picked up a "new to me" transmission this past weekend from 5speed02 that he had left over after his motor and trans swap

BTW I have a hypertech program in my truck which about the most run of mill generic tune u can get. If I was u I would diffinently go with a custom tune from Nelson Performance. He can create u a tune that is specifically made for your truck and mods. it may cost alittle more than buying a handheld tuner like hypertech, diablo, or whatever but trust me you cant bet the kind of work he does. the only reason i haven't got one yet is fixing broken stuff, my rides been done since Feb. 2001 . but its very high on my priorty list!!!!
