when they make comments like this....

Number 1....
Me and the boy were headed over to a friend's house to drop off some food. We were coasting up to a red light in the right lane where a Mitsubishi Lancer with a fin and fart can was sitting in the left lane. The light turned green before I had to brake so I eased into the throttle a bit not even trying to hook the Lancer but he jumped on the gas. I got into it just enough to pace him until the next light. Both of us had to stop at the next light and my boy was giving the kid a "look over". So I asked, "You want to see if he wants to go?"

The boy looks at me and says...."Dad, its a Mitsubishi....you'll make him cry!"

Number 2
The boy is at church in Rangers (kind of like Boys Scouts) and they are racing Matchbox cars on a track. One of the commanders lines up a truck and car to tool with my boy. (There's another story there) The race is on and the car wins. The commander says, "See! The car beat the truck." The boy didn't miss a beat and fires back, "Duh...the truck was a Ford!"

Dude---your kid is cool. I want mine to turn out like yours. You must have done a good job raising him when he is already making comments like that!

I am pretty proud of him. He knows his $hit pretty well for an 11yo. The cool thing about him is that he has learned that while the truck is fast, you never know who is faster; no trash talk and you race what you bring.

Ron, the commander I was talking about...he and my boy were talking cars and stuff. Jack made the offhand comment (not trash talk) that the truck was pushing close to 600 ft/lbs of TQ and it would probably be an interesting race with Ron's Audi. Ron was like...no way your Dad's truck has that much TQ or that he'd beat the Audi. A couple of the other guys jumped on the Audi wagon and were saying that Audi would "walk the truck". Jack's response..."Well....line 'em up then!"

Couple of days later, I was talking to the guy and qualified that the TQ numbers were "at the crank, not at the wheels" but I still thought it'd be a interesting race. (Again, no trash talk) He said I was "traction limited" being a truck and couldn't win. I agreed that could be a problem but not in 4-HI. He was REAL surprised that I'd race in 4HI. I told him wherever, whenever he's ready. A couple of the other guys made some good natured comments to me in passing to the effect of...when are you going to lose to the Audi? or your truck can't beat an Audi. I just said we'll have to race to know that for sure won't we?!?!

Then a couple days later Jack overheard a conversation between Ron and the other guys. Seems Ron had gone to the Audi dealership to get a feel for what he was up against. He told the dealer about the truck's mods and that I'd race in 4WD. The dealer told Ron...be ready to lose because the truck will win.

Jack told me what he'd heard and then aksed......Does that qualify as a "kill"?

I said , no, but I'd save my money to bet on the truck!

I still haven't raced the Audi....but there hasn't been anymore "Audi Rules" talk either.

What type of Audi? An A4 with the 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo? If it was an S4, that might be a different story...

Honestly....I don't know. He usually drives his Suburban on Wed. nights and we go to different services on Sundays. It's either an A4 or A6. I'm pretty sure it's not an S series.

All in all, it doesn't matter that much. If I had to lose to someone, I'd rather lose to this guy. He is real cool. For one our Ranger projects, we bought a used Suzuki GSR 600 and helped the boys strip it down and re-build it for an auction. You should have seen those boy's faces when that engine fired up.
