Thread: 160* thermostat

    ok guys all of you that kno i have a 96 SWB silveraod with a vortec 5.7. i am lookin into buyin a 160* thermostat to make truck run cooler. do these help out much at all or are they just for a cooler running rig?
    96 Silverado rcsb
    5.7l Vortec
    Exterior: 2 inch drop shackles, Centerline Titan 20" Wheels, clear lights, Debadged.

    -Exterior to come: 2-4 drop, Tinted windows, Cowl hood, Green Calipers
    -Performance mods: Flowmaster True Dual exhaust
    -Performance to come: Tune, CAI, Cam, Spray, Posi, gears, stall, headers.

    I Used to have a truck like urs and used the 160 on it.

    My feeling was besides the cooler temp, that the truck was a bit responsive in lower RPM.

    Other than that no real world conclusions. I live in a really hot place, most like Texas, so I always think that if the water is less hot, the engine oil must be on the same side.

    There's a lot of fighting on this issue. I can get in great details. But botom line, is not a expensive upgrade, and DYI in no time on ur truck, so if u dont like it u can take it off.

    Id defintley do it ! cheap and easy way to make your engine cooler . cooler= more power. cooler= more timing to be utulized which = more power.

    I have the 160* therm but once warm it will never get below 173* on the Aeroforce Scan Gauge. I wouldn't trust the factory gauge as I have seen it 10* on either side.
