so i've decided that i want to put a 5.3L in my 2001 s10. sounds like a good idea only OBD2 scans have been implemented into the emissions inspection this year. am i going to fail without the stock engine? if i am, is there any thing i can do to pass it? if i'm not going to fail, what else do i need to do to fully pass the inspection?

Hmm... let's see... Make sure you have:

#1 - catalytic converter (or gutted)
    #2 - all o2 sensors (or at least 2 sensors & 2 sims)
#3 - mufflers (maybe no cutouts)
    #4 - no emissions-related DTCs

... and I would think you're good. I'm not in a state that requires OBDII checks for inspections. Maybe someone else can confirm/correct anything that I've mentioned.
