Just trying to stir up some conversation.

The Trailblazer family of SUV's use the inline 6. The new I-4 and I-5 are based on the I-6. I wonder if an LS1 would go into the Colorado/Canyon trucks using parts from the Trailblazer? Might make for one helluva fast truck!

Anyone know what rearends/trannies the new Colorado's are using?

The new Colorado's and Canyon's are piles o' crap and not worth the work in my opinion. The tranny however is a 4L60E and I believe that the rear end is an 8.5"... just like what the current S-10 has. Oh except that they now use drum brakes in back instead of disc's (no I ain't joking). The frames are stiff enough to support the LS1 though... and you will need it cuz that I-5 has less torque then the 4.3L that it replaces. Also, you will want to replace the seats with some race buckets cuz MY GOD DO THE STOCK SEATS SUCK!! Seriously, I sat in one and my back actually began to hurt. Oh yeah, and replace the guage cluster with something custom cuz it looks like a reject from the 80's...... hrm what else... oh yeah, there is one guy that I know of that will try to defy convention and in a few months he is going to start working on turning one of these into an off-road beast as rolling advertisment for his shop.

But generally, they look cool... but it is just a purty shell for something that is a step back from the current S-10 that it is replacing... haha.. and yeah... I just hate 'em.

I kind of like the new colorado, I bet you could make it a baby SS, lol.

I'd love to have one with an LS1 or v8 genIII. I remember seeing one on display in a magazine as a intro of something, they had it lowered , better rims and some other stuff, looked kind of cool.

    later,

The S-10s had drum brakes. The only S-series trucks to receive factory discs were the SUVs.

And, only some S-10's came with the 8.5" rear...most had the 7.5".

    4X4 S-10's from 99 (I think) & up had rear discs.
As far as any kind of LS1 swap or something in to the Canyon/Colorado, I think there is a lot more research that needs to be done. I can't wait to have one in hand. From what I have seen though, making the engine fit is just like anything else. Do what needs to be done to bolt it in. The main problem I have seen is getting the new OBD systemto function properly with the OBD2. A lot of that stuff has been changed from my understanding.

The Trailblazer had a 5.3L option one year,if it fit an LS1 would use the same mounts.I guess?

Actually I believe that 98 was when all S-10's started coming with disc brakes. As for the axle size, sorry, I am thinking about my ZR2 and that i what it came with.

Also, as for the Trailblazer, yes, the extended wheelbase one that is sold right now can be bought with a 5.3L under the hood.

The new pickups are not based on the same frame as the trail blazer. The reason GM didnt put a v8 in the canyon is that it WONT fit. The engine bay is so narrow they could not get a v8 in there. Im sure it could be done...an LS1 swap but the whoel front of the truck whould have to be re-configured. I hear there is talk of a turbo I-5 in th enear future for the new trucks.

the only s10s to get disc brakes were the 99 up zr2 s10, and the 99 and up blazers. all the regular s10s, no matter if they're xtremes, or zq8s, they all come with drum brakes in the rear.
