    newbie from azle tx

    Hey all!

I'm a '78 Corvette owner that is trying to find an l31 pullout with 4 bolt mains and a roller cam to swap into my car. The guys over at Corvetteforum.com suggested I check in here to see what's available.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the club!!!!

I have a very good friend that is just finishing up his Corvette project, It's also a 70 something model. He bought two of those engines off of ebay from California, paid to have them shipped to Ohio, only to find out both had cracked blocks!!! Good luck in your search.

Someones gotta say it, might as well be the Canadian asshole. Why the F are you putting an L31 into a vette? Other then it being a direct bolt in? Even a 4.8 would nicer in there then that gen 2 boat anchor.

If you step to a Gen 3, you get better performance, better mileage, 6 bolt mains, can withstand a lot more serious mods on the factory fuel system and efi. Cost MIGHT be the only downside.

Because the associated cost is far more than I want to spend. Yea, I'd love to toss an ls motor in there....but it'll run just fine with the boat anchor you referenced earlier. I mean.. it was only hot rodded for about 50 years so there hasn't been much in the way of parts development for it.

Oh sure there's lots of parts for the engine itself, but have fun getting it running nicely with the POS fuel system and ECM.

It's a '78 vette which means in Texas that I am exempt from emissions due to the vehicle being over 25 yrs old. Getting the fuel system sorted is as simple as a performer rpm manifold, holley 4150, and a low volume electric pump. Or even sticking with a quadrajet.

I full well understand the LS motor is superior in every way.. but that's not the route I'm going. Stepping up to a late Gen 1 with the 1 piece crank seal and roller cam has the potential to produce more than enough power to break the entire drivetrain into pieces. They weren't exactly known for being bulletproof.

Ok if you're putting a carb on it, no problemmo. I assumed when you were on the hunt for a Vortec you were after EFI. Nout just a roller cam 350. Okay makes more sense now.
