Has anyone tested just the nology wires for actual performance/milage gains?
Or would just a new set of 8mm wires be just as effective on a stock engine?
    Any info would be appreciated.

i would think that you would have to upgrade the coils to get more spark out of a set of wires no mater who's they are

i'd reccomend taylor spiro pro 8mm wires (never heard of nology, maybe being a farmer in IL is keeping me from the latest and greatest in performance, lol). I just put them on my truck today and can tell that the truck performs better compared to the stock wires which were ran all 173,xxxmiles of the trucks life.

Not sure if it'd make a large difference on a vehicle with lower miles though.

Also aftermarket wires would be a better wire over stock because car companies rely on the same technology, with aftermarket companies like taylor, msd, jacobs, etc. They tend to test the latest products thoroughly (sp?) to make sure of increased performance, IMO.

Or if you have the cash, get the new MSD blaster coils ($75/ea) with the matched 8.5mm msd wires (like $80 i think). Ive heard it makes a huge difference even on stock replacement plugs.

jason (a friend of mine) from chicago who owns a 99 ls1 z28 m6. Said he gained around 10hp with the coils and wires, but he also had alot of mods done to the car(he used taylor wires).

Still have to look at it this way though...is $540 or so worth it for 10hp? IMO its not unless you've got everything else done to your vehicle.
