thinking about getting a transgo and was wondering what to expect as far as firmness. i want to be able to scratch in 2nd but don't know if i'm asking for too much. my truck put out 240hp on the dyno totally stock with exhaust. i've been reading hitmanx thread about 4l60e upgrades and he says to toss all the washers, but what i want to know is will i still be able to catch 2nd if i do so. how much hp do i need to catch 3rd?

With the TG kit you tailor the firmness. It comes with three washers (spacers) that can go in the 1-2 accumulator for the TG 2 spring setup. They firm up the 1-2 shift. If you upgraded to a billet intermediate servo like the Superior Super, the shift would be firm enough w/o using the any spacers. I think this is what Hit Man is talking about. For a Corvette style servo upgrade, the common practice is to use one spacer. Also, you enlarge some flow holes in the VB plate when doing the TG, which also enhances the firmness.

If you go with the Transgo, it's also a good idea to have your PCM tuned so the line pressure and other paramters can be setup correctly. Barking the tires on the 1-2 shift won't be a problem then

I had the transgo on an 01 z-71 with no washers and it would chirp the tires every time unless I didn't have my foot on the gas. I think Hit Man recommended not drilling the 1-2 feed hole which probably would have eased my shift up a little.

Yeah I swapped my seperator plate to a TG one and didn't drill that feed hole and ran no washers, it's plenty stout with both billets. Anything more is too much. I tried a 'Vette servo with no washers and a standard feedhole, still shifts okay. Far softer at low throttle which you may or may not want.

The billet intermediate firms up the 1-2 and 2-3 also as it basically does away with the 2-3 accumulator.

Making the tires bark on a 2-3 isn't attainable with a standard 3-4 clutch pack and have the trans be reliable. There is too much slop internally to make it shift in that manner.

if you already have the right gears and all you want is a 2nd scratch get allen to hook you up with a tune and cook them rubbers. with my mods i can bark the hell outa them on 2nd. 70% of torque management was removed on mine. i probably wont be barking them once i get these crummy arse 245's off of it though.
