questions about OBS to LS swap

    Hi everyone. First post!
I've been researching an LS swap into 98 Chevy truck. It's a factory 305 automatic. This site has been a great help, but I've still got a few questions.

    1. What engine accessories do I use. I know I have to use a different A/C compressor, but what about alternator and starter? Will I need to use the ones from the LS engine, or can I use what I've got?

    2. Other than motor, harness, ecu, flywheel adapter, o/p and temp sensor adapters, and fuel adapters, is there anything else I need? (planning to use stock LS manifolds for now)

    3. Is there a way around the VATS without sending my ecu out to someone? Is there a way to make my passlock send an appropriate signal to the VATS? There's gotta be a work around for this. lol

I'm sure that I'll have more questions, but this is what's come to mind after reading a LOT for threads and boards.

    Thanks!

hey welcome to the site! im knee deep into a swap myself. 2005 5.3 into a obs 2door tahoe. you will use the starter and altenator from the ls. there isnt much from the old engine you will need. make sure you take off the o/p sens. temp sens, and motor mount cups. (i sold my engine with all this stuff on it. now i have to order it) also if you are planning on using dbw you will need the pedal and tac module. and as far as the vats it would be in your best interest to send the pcm out because not only will they remove the vats but you can get it tuned and everything.
so of the parts you will need will depend on what engine you get and how complete it is. im new to this as well feel free to check out my build thread in my sig.

I actually read your entire thread last night. You've got it coming along nicely. I'd figured that I'd use the LS starter, but wasn't sure about the alt. I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and decide on whose harness to go with. I'd like to do my own, but I'm just not sure I want to hassle with it. I'm confident that I could do my own. Maybe if I get my truck swapped without a lot of issues, I'll do my Camaro down the road and build my own with it. I'm supposed to look at engines tomorrow or Thursday. We'll go from there, I suppose.

Well, new question guys. I found an 02 Avalanche 5.3 with 120,xxx miles. Truck was t-boned. Everything is still there under the hood. Is $700 a good price? Also, do I need the fuse box and associated wiring?

No trans, but I don't need it. My truck had a 4L60 anyway. It's COMPLETE. Airbox, engine cover, whole nine yards. Oh, it's also got the 0411 pcm.

So, do I need the fusebox and that harness?

it depends..if you have someone who can rework the harness for cheap then go ahead. if not just buy a brand new one. nelson chrges 650 for a new one.
