    Tranny slipping

    Ok, I've noticed the past couple days that my tranny(4L60E) is starting to slip. It's happening at low rpms just after starting to accelerate from a stop. My truck has over 103K on it. Would a simple service(filter and fluid) help with this problem, or should I look into some upgrades of some sort?

    Also, what are the 60E's weaknesses? What symptoms do I need look for when having problems with it?

    General rule of thumb is that once it starts its just a matter of time. However couldn't hurt to service it and hope it helps it last a little longer. Other wise corvette servo is a simple start but a complete rebuild would give you insurance instead of a bandaid. Whats your plan with the truck? If your thinking big power get an 80e or built 60e now. If your going more casual power and have experience in the area you can rebuild it yourself but I would send it out in mine own case. Hopefully this gave you an idea of what to do. Just trying to help you out some. I'm no pro and don't claim to be so take my advice for what its worth.

    Usually servicing a transmission after its not working right makes it worse. I would start looking into a 4l80e with the HD2 kit if you plan on upgrading power later on. I rebuilt my transmission in my shop class when my 3-4 clutch pack went and beefed everything up. I only had 65,000 miles. The weak point on the 60e's is the whole transmission basically. 4l80 is the way to go.

    A rebuild would be ideal. If you do decide on a rebuild some basic parts would be the alto 2-4 band, corvette servo, billet overdrive servo for towing in OD. borg warner sprag with the dual cage, beast sunshell with sonnax extra wide rear sun gear bushing sonnax exrtra wide rear stator support bushing, rebestos 3-4 z-pack works very well, or the red alto 8 clutch setup with kolene steels(this makes 3rd gear shift a bit firmer)

    If you run the truck hard I would add a sonnax sleeve kit to the input drum, 4l65e hardened and shot peened output shaft, drill 3rd gear feed hole to .093.

    If you have big power in a heavy truck make sure not to set up a hard 1-2 shift, it will snap an ouput shaft in a heatbeat.

    I did a simple filter, oil drain and fill with 5-6qts and it was night and day difference. Oil hadn't been changed in about 60-80,000 miles. Do the basics first. I first noticed it when I did the new exhaust and tune. I took 60-80% of TM off so it was slipping bad.

    my 65e held up to the engine and mods in my sig plus a 150 shot of n20 and never missed a lick. Its all in how good of a quality build it is. A well built 60e can hold up to a lot of punishment...i can vouch from experience

    My 60e is built and has 40K miles on it so far with no problems. Stock for stock the 80e is much better. If I were on a budget personally I would just get a used 80e and put a reprogramming kit in it.

    i cant argue with that...an 80e is just about bullet proof. i was Just sayin a 60e can be built to handle a good bit of power too

    Hey guys, thanks for the replies. As for now, my truck is a stock daily driver. I do plan to do a Nelson 89 tune in the future. I may eventually change the 40 series Flowmaster to a larger Magnaflow for a more mellow tone, and maybe change gears. Other than that, I don't really plan to do much more to it. I'll probably leave the 60E in it and just have it built a little better if it needs a rebuild. I'll try the filter and fluid change first.
