    Speed density

    speed density tune please explain lol...i tried looking up threads but it wont search so im posting!

    how do u know when u need a sd tune? any gains from it?

    It's a tune that doesn't use the MAF at all. It relies on the VE table and all it's modifier tables. You go SD when you max out the MAF with FI, if the MAF becomes a restriction in the air inlet system or with big cams that surge a little and mess up the MAF reading.

    No gains. It just gets rid of the maf sensor in applications like forced induction where the sensor is maxed out.

    when i went from a MAF tune to SD i picked up a TON of power... probably close to 300 or so!

    btw ive seen n/a cars with sd tunes...thanks for the info

    well... i took the maf off when i went turbo, so i guess im not a good example!

    If you got gains by removing your MAF then there was something wrong with you MAF or your tune. You don't need to be forced induction to go SD, older cars and trucks used it for years.

    yea my roomie runs a sd tune on his camaro and we will be tuning another buddy's TA in sd next weekend. If you read up on tuning onhptuners, you will see that 95% of the people ditch the maf and do a sd tune. Its easier, but if you run sd you really should retune every season (winter, spring, fall, summer) bc you dont have a maf to compensate for the density of the air.
