I would like to shave the tailgate handle on my truck but I do not want to relocate the handle inside the bed. I would like to use a pair of 45 lb. solenoids to make the tailgate latch remote entry. Has anyone done this or has anyone heard of it being done?

If so, is there a reliable kit somewhere?

How could you set up an emergency release cable?

    Thanks.

Here is something I think you would like.
    http://www.mrtruck.net/droptail.htm

    It's fully remotely controlled.
And for a manual release, rig up a pop-a-lock.

That is slick. I sent an e-mail for pricing. not so much interested in the auto wing effect but click a button and tailgate is down is cool. Lazy, but cool.

Of course it is, I found it.
You have to dig deep to find companys that do custom stuff like that.
And yeah, it is lazy. My fingers work just fine.

Making it easy on the fingers (lazy) isn't the point. The shaved look is great for the outside of the tailgate but I do not want to relocate the handle to the inside of the tailgate. Smooth on both sides. In other words, it is different and doesn't simply follow the herd.

Im all about the being lazy one finger application. I dont even car if it has a tailgate handle if the remote works. I wonder if you could program your remote door lock additional button to open it. Then you would not have to carry two remotes. They would be to heavy LOL

I wonder if you could use the remote from a GM car that has a trunk release. Wish I could do that with the tailgate and the rear hatch. Settled for a handle flip.
