    5.3liter amateur head job!!

I am replacing the cylinder heads on my 05 silverado. Probably has the cracked castech head. Do I need to pull the valley cover and look for coolant in there? I have never done this before but i am down to the heads. just have to pull those off tomorrow. afraid i will see cylinders full of water/coolant. is there anything else i need to check while i'm in there? or can i just get the heads and gaskets and reassemble? thanx for any help! What is under the valley cover?

No need to pull the valley cover.
No coolant should be in there.

Be sure to clean out the bolt holes with a tap and air.
Make ur own tap. Cut slits down a stock bolt.
Clean head and block surface really well.
After ur done with the first step of torquin the bolts put marks or lines on the head bolt so u know u have degreed each bolt.

Fill the block up w coolant thru the steam port/hose. Lessens the chance of an air pocket and overheating.
