I do have a few questions if you don't mind. is the trans known for early wear? How does it respond to the different modifications? How big of a Nitrous shot can the motor take stock? How about the stock internals, are the pistons hyperneumatic (or however you spell it). What are some common trouble sopots with these trucks? Are there any major motor differences year to year (99-02)? Sorry for the stupid questions hehehe.

I think you will find the Transmission are the weakest link in the drivetrain. You can drastically improve them with some minor modifications.

There are quite a few guys making over 500 rwhp with littel more than new rod bolts.

I'm pretty sure the biggest differences between 99 - 02 are the PCM's and programming.

I don't really know anything about nitrous, but there are people here who can help.

    Welcome aboard.

trannies are best known for not lasting. i am on number 5. they are designed for grandma to drive. put in a shift kit and servos. that should do ok. as far as a stock motor and nitrous. i was running a 150 shot on mine with cam and springs. lower internals were stock. run tr6 plugs and keep the fuel jets what is specified. always check the plugs after a few bottles to check. hyperutectic-yes. trouble spots. hard to say every truck is different. in 99 they had a d9ifferent cam and shit tuning. 200 and up have the same cam and better tuning. 2002 has the best tuning of the 99 to 02 group. from there the pcm's changed and so did the pin outs, get a nelson tune with the nitrous and he can tailor it to that. welcome aboard and good luck.

hehehe, no need to run, i bow down to the 5.3. I need to get me a 5.3 and modify it to keep up with the damned Dakotas with internal mods, crate motors, juice, etc, etc. I was considering a lightning for about a night, but the thought of another Ford hurts hehehe. I love your truck man, exactly what i would like to find. Was chaecking the autotrader, there is an 01 5.3 RC (not stepside though ) for 9600 obo, but it has a rebuilt title.
