I was up in amarillo this weekend and i saw a late model ford f150 all pimped out and it said "Chingon" on the top of the windshield, in big letters, i immediately thought about you, chingon, and wondered what it meant.

looks like someone has your name

    later,

Yea right, I'm the one and only "Chingon"
The closest English word I can think of for it is..."badass mother fucker"

Is Amarillo in southern Texas by any chance?
Southern Texas, as well as any southern part of the southwestern states that border with Mexico have a high population of Mexicans, illegal immigrants or otherwise, for obvious reasons. e.g. California, Texas, Nevada and Arizona used to be Mexico not too long ago.

This is a "Mexican Spanish" term. If you said, "Soy chingon!"(I'm a badass) to someone from Columbia or Argentina, they would look at you funny because they wouldn't have any idea what that means.
Just as in English, there are different slang terms in different countries of the Latin American world.
I met a guy from England when I lived in Argentina, and "spanner" is the word used for "wrench"...you know, the tool.
A "boot" of a car is the trunk, and the "bonnet" is the hood.
Also, that English guy I met told me if you want to say, "I got drunk" you would say, "I got spannered" in England. Spanner meaning wrench, so I guess here you could say, "I got wrenched" to mean you got drunk...hah...I dunno.

Sorry for the novel, but yea, it means badass mother fucker.

next time i see him, i'll be in amarillo for turkey day, i'll make sure i have a razor scraper and take it off for you, lol

    thanks for the explanation,

    HAH!
Yea, I wouldn't actually put that on my truck. I just use it on here.
So now you know what it means, heh. Tell that guy that you're a "Chingon"...not him.
