    Pushrod Failure . .. Thoughts . . ? ???

    I drove the truck about an hour and a half to get tuned. Then left it to be tuned. Picked it up and it was ticking. It has been ticking for a while. A long while. LOL It just seemed to be extra loud. I pulled the valve cover to find one rocker arm loose. The bolt was tight but this was the pushrod. The messed up end was the end touching the rocker arm. What the crap is with this hardened pushrod? Small cam with patriot dual gold springs.

    Maybe oil wasn't getting fed through it. Can you blow through it?

    Does the rocker move freely... I would think the rocker would fail before a hardned pushrod would.

    Oil was on top of the rocker arm and it was not plugged. I am going to pull them all and change them Ordered new ones already. Waiting on them to get here.

    That is what I thought. I don't know how to explain it other than maybe installation error maybe? I don't know. Rocker arm moved fine like nothing is wrong.

    thats weird! maybe/hopefully just a fluke or bad pushrod... i dont see how that could really happen

    I wonder if that particular pushrod didn't get properly or completely hardened from the factory. Maybe an inconsistent oil starvation problem due to a blocked oil passage in the rod? It only has to get burned once for the hardening process to be negated

    The other thing is probably a collapsed lifter. Hate to say it, but if it was a pushrod defect it would have showed itself immediately.

    ya think? if the material wasnt up to snuff then it would take some time to wear down like that, it wouldnt just go away like that over night because of soft metal...?

    Not to question your stance or anything, Jon, but Zeake did mention that it had been ticking for a long time. But it certainly makes sense that the culprit would have been a collapsed lifter. If that was the case, then wouldn't the bad lifter block off some of the oil flow up the pushrod, making it even worse?

    Or does the pushrod use a different passage in the block for oil?
