2001 rear disc brake parking brake help?

I just aquired a 2001 sierra with rear disc brake and I noticed that the parking brake goes all to the floor I have it all apart right now and I can't seem to get it adjusted I am starting to wonder if the cables are bad because no matter what I do the will still go to the floor any pointers?

There is a little bit of adjustment where the 2 parts of the cable go together under the driver's door. Did you replace the shoes? Are the adjusters working correctly?

yeah I adjusted the the parking brake underneith the rotors it is working and the adjuster under the cab is completely out of threads it acts as if there is something wrong with a cable or the parking brake pedal but it is not supposed to go to the floor with pushing with my hand right, I have never had one of these late models with the rear discs always the drums so I am not sure how it is supposed to be.

eh, just throw all that crap away. If brakes fail, drop it in 1st and shut it down lol

Soooo....did you replace the shoes?

I had the same problem with the park brake on my C3. I took the adjusters out and blasted them with brake cleaner and then lubed them good with synthetic grease. Works fine now and I was able to put adjustment back in the cable.

Well crap I messed with it so much I broke the clip off that holds the shoe on so I bought a new one at napa and put it all back together the problem still exists I talked to several people and the dealership they all said it was normal, not sure!

there was a recall on the rear brakes in the years with the discs...something about the cable or spring set up they had were it wouldnt engage after awhile if you didnt use it all the time, if i remember correctly

Now that I think about it some more, I remember taking out the lever arm that the cable attaches to. It was all gunked up too. After I cleaned all that out and lubed it, it works great.
I probably haven't used the park brake since, wouldn't have spent much time on it if I wasn't doing a brake job at the same time.

I've had the same problem with my emer brake never used it because it never worked until i was about to put a new tranny in. I read some stuff about recalls and gm wouldn't do anything about it but charge 600 to put some spring on it. I've noticed that the shoe itself seems to move around inside the hat and drag, when i replaced my shoes they wouldn't make contact with the inside because they were so worn down. They don't seem to be dragging anymore but you'll here a little scrap from time to time. There really isn't much holding the shoe steady in there, should have been a 2 piece design with some more control. Google it and you may find some insight as I did I just ca't remember exactly. I read that they have a repair kit to solve the issue but can't remember if you have to get it from the dealer or not.
