Thread: HP/EFI or other?

    HP/EFI or other?

Planning on doing some upgrades soon and just looking for a little advice. Recently aquired 01 2500HD with 6.0l. Plan on doing Cai/Lt headers/ already did cat back. Would like to remove egr/rear o2's and tune torgue management and timing fuel etc. Maybe cam and heads later down the rd. What do you guys consider the best bang for the buck? HP tuners/EFi live Or a handheld? If there is one that will do all this? Ive tuned tbi efi in my last truck with Moates gear and chips etc. Cammed/intake/exhaust timing and fuel graphs/ve tables etc. So I do know enough to get started I think? Just looking for comments and suggestions? I see HP is a couple hundred cheaper than EFi live? Any reasons for this? Sorry for the long post!! Thanks again.

I use Hptuners. When I got it, it was priced the same as EFI live iirc. Either way, I have friends that use EFI live. I havent really messed with EFI much, but from what I can tell HPt is a little easier to use. May just be that thats what Im used to, but one friend who has EFI and had never used HPT even said HPT was easier to use

EFILive does stand alone flashing and logging now , meaning you don't need to drag a laptop around to log or tune anymore , sweet , so like a handheld but the power of software tuning all in one .
Diesels can enjoy switchable tunes , up to 5 , good stuff .
Now what is a tune again?

Call me dumb but how can it do flash/logging without a laptop? I didnt think they had a screen or mobile box etc?

It comes down to pref. Both can do just about the same, but one is easier to others, has diff features.. When it comes times for headers shoot me a PM

The V2 (EFILive controller) uses a SD card to record data , logging, and then the same card can be used to load a tune on that you can flash all without a laptop present . Of course you need a computer with software (EFILive) installed to make changes to the tune and read the data , but the controller does it all now.
So HPT is kind of old school .

I went a couple of weeks ago and picked up a netbook just for tuning. It pretty much stays in my truck or on my desk at work. Makes me not have to worry about something happening to my laptop. I didnt necessarly go budget and got one with a built in 3g card, but now while tuning, if I have a question, I can get online and search.

Not sure what the price difference is between HPT and EFI, but it could be something to think about

I think HP Tuners has at least some of that covered. You can log data without a laptop using the pro interface...

"Our MPVI Pro interface also has black box data datalogging of up to 1hr 30mins built in. What this means is you are able to scan your vehicle without the use of a laptop using the interfaces record button. You can then take the interface into your home to transfer the log contents from the interface to the computer."

Flashed a tune in my truck last night , no laptop , pretty cool if you ask me , but then I go for new technology . :-)
Forgot to add, EFILive does digital wide-band , it can do analog like HPT but why , digital is more accurate , so stand alone flashing and digital AFR through wide-band .
HPT is in the dark ages . ;-)
