    2wd vs 4wd tranny

What is the main difference between a 2wd and 4wd trans. I bought a 5.3 with the tranny but it's a 2wd and mines a 4wd. Can I take the tail section off the 2wd tranny and bolt my tranfer case to it? Is there any difference. Thanks

The difference is the tailshaft AND tailhousing. Both are shorter overall.

Too much involved to just swap the back end of the tranny. Just plop the new 5.3L in your truck and keep the same tranny.

you have to swap output shafts, and to do that you have to tear the trans completely apart.

I keep telling my bro in law this but he doesnt believe it. He is keeping his 2wd trans for a spare for his 4wd.
