Help on finding a rebuld kit for '04 6.0

I'm doing a buildup on a 6.0 and i need to find a rebuild kit for a decent price. A few sites list them for $600-$900. I called a few places in town and they told me $1200. Can anyone tell me who to call or where to go for a good deal on this?
    Thanks in advance!

What are they selling for 6-900? I know the gasket kits alone are over $500

I have yet to hear about anyone having trouble with cheap gaskets or parts, but I'd still try to find a kit with Mr. Gasket/ Felpro stuff. Rock auto has some federal mogul pistons, IIRC they have the 4.005 or 4.010, but they're $$

I don't know if this helps, but my buddy got LS2 dropouts/rods for his and bored it .065, which was still less than new pistons

how many miles does the motor have on it? and why are you rebuilding it?

if a kit is that much over 1k, it almost seems like you could get a whole new engine with lower miles on it for cheaper.......

Motorholmes: Would he be interested in selling the pistons? They are for a 4.000 inch bore right?
Well i bought the engine as a core, i'm sure it would have ran but i wanted to do the build right and replace everything to were its as good as new and shouldnt give me problems later on. I'm going to use the l92 heads on this engine and thought if i've got to tear it down might as well rebuild it as i dont know the history of the engine.

Damn, for $900--you could have it taken to a machine shop and have them do it...

    .
I don't think I still have 'em. Engine had 180k. From what I've heard, if you have over 100k on a motor you'll need a bore and oversized pistons. Otherwise you can re-ring yours and see if you can get away with it. Problem is the cylinders get "egged" or egg-shaped. Mine were 4.000 one way and 4.003 the other.

I'd pick up a set of 4.005 pistons if I were you, then you have flat tops and you can shoot for your 10.25 or 10.5 CR. But you'll need a couple grand for all the parts.

Or you can trade the motor plus $1200 to your buddy like I did, for a 70k mile LS6 engine, and just put in a cam and rock n roll

This isnt true. Dale had 200k plus on his engine and still had hatch marks.

Or you can take the block, machine it, buy a 1700$ forged kit, and be out just a tick more.
