    06 GMC 5.3 cam info...

I have a 06 GMC Sierra SLT crew cab Z-71 4x4 with a 5.3 and 127,000 on it, and it needs a cam. I tow a 28 foot trailer occasionally, and would like to put a cam in it that would help this. After the cam swap, and a cold air kit, I will be getting a pc tune to make it all work best it can.

I understand that I need to call a cam company to get the right grind for my needs, but I am looking for information about the swap...do's and don'ts, shortcuts, additional parts that I should replace, how to reset all the internal sensors etc...

I will be doing the work myself, and any information will be appreciated...

    Thanks
    Dave

Hey Dave. First off, you are going to need a low RPM cam for what you want. You have a big, heavy truck that needs all it can get down low from the 5.3L.

I would say something in the 212/216 .542/.547 116 LSA would work well.

The cam swap is pretty simple. There are some threads about this, so use the Search tab and see what you get. If not, send me a Private Message and we can discuss.
