I read the threads about needing to change the alternator from the 105 Amp to something larger when you install the '05 elec fans. I found an alternator that is rated at 130 Amp, is that enough? I had to prove to myself that the larger alternator was needed so I pulled my LT1 fans and placed the '05 fans near the rad. My harness is from Nelson so just A/C the alternator keeps up, just temp (both fans low) the alternator keeps up, but with A/C and temp (both fans high) the volt gauge goes to 11.5 Volt real fast and the A/C will not stay on. Interesting.

So what is the minimum amp alt needed to run the fans and still keep the system running properly? Thanks

Yes, I run the 130A on my truck. It was all that was around before GM began to produce the 145A. Output is about 60-65A at idle w/ the 130A versus 40-45A at idle with the 105A stock.

You will need a longer belt also.

Do you have any other aftermarket stereo or other lights to draw on the system? Night time lights and A/C no problems? Thanks for the post.

Yes, I have a multi amp stereo (over 800rms) and my truck is an LT package.

Prior the 105A would discharge during the day with just the A/C on as well as the fans, the 130A should be required with e-fans.

Thanks, I think I have found a good deal on a 200 amp if I can't snag that 130 for a good price.

Make sure it's a good 200A some places build junk ones, going cheap will only cost you in the end. I have a nice one from Alterstart on my F150, makes excellent power.

No doubt a 130A or higher should be a prerequisite for e-fans! I added a FAL #108 pusher fan (6A draw) to supplement my existing LS1 fans and the 105A alt is not cutting it period. Note all I have is the base OE sound system (I use that term loosely).

We've been having this goofy monsoon weather here in MO where it pours sheets every dang afternoon. When the windshield starts to fog, and running the defrost blower w/ the A/C on is the only way to clear it, my charge indicator drops to about 13.5A. With lights on (especially if towing a trailer), it's even worse. Not good!

Oh well, next big buck up for Slamma is also for a bigger alt.

Quick Start makes some decent units (from what I've heard anyhow). They are the AD-244 type. You can find these at http://www.alternatorparts.com/ad_al...order_page.htm.

Upgrading the charge wire seems to be important for these higher output type alts. What to you think Hit Man, at least 4-gauge?

I have the OE fuseable link on there still with my 130A, it's fine. But for up to 160A I'd go 4awg, over that I'd look for 2 or 0awg. Better safe than sorry.

I ran across the Second Alternator setup shown on a Hummer, I call that overkill. I guess in the Army version they run two alternators and push like 600 plus amp ? Anyone even come close to needing the second alt???

Thanks for your input Hit Man X and Slamadingdong.
