Temp actuator may have failed but if it changes temps at all that is unlikely. There were issues with the plastic connectors to the heater core on the firewall too.

so i checked the coolant level and its good. i felt the heater hoses and one is hot and the other is ice cold. is that mean the core is clogged? i noticed there is a filter/fitting looking thing on the end of the heater hoses on the firewall is that what you were talking about nathan? what should be my next course of action? thanks gary

Yeah the core is plugged or one of the couplers is fouled up. Leave the couplers on the core but pull the clamps forward on the rubber part of the hoses before pulling the hoses loose. Put a garden hose on one of the heater core pipes and see if it flows through and what comes out. If if pukes a blob then runs clean, reassemble and see how it works. If it does not, look closer at the couplers or condemn the core as plugged.

One of my couplers blew apart right after I bought my truck. I just cut it off and pushed the hose back on the heater core.
