Question About Lowering

I have a Z71, and I already lowered my torsion bars all the way. I now only need to drop the rear. I am planning on changing out the u-bolts, but the goober at Autozone told me that doing that will mess up the suspension in the long run. Is this true???

i want the rear to be level wit the front and on the front i lowered my torsion bars ALL the way. I dont know how low that is tho. i didnt measure

Your fine, just do it. I and many others out there have pretty low 4x4's and everything is ok

But JUST changing u-bolts won't do squat. Are you just flipping the leafs below axle? If so, you need factory length bolts. Longer length bolts if you are adding a drop block as well... BUT with just lowering torsion bars, that's prolly gonna have a cali lean.

Lowering/cranking torsion keys will cause the tires to run on an edge instead of perfectly flat...which can cause excessive suspension/tires wear.


I'm sure the autozoner (the dumb term the company uses for its employees) didn't know any of this...but he was not 100% wrong.

I have yet to meet someone that works at autozone around here that even has a clue, much less knows anything about a vehicle. Removing the blocks that are between the leafs and spring perches will do absolutely nothing to anything except lower it that amount. Just go get a alignment done and your front suspension will be fine. I would have put dropped spindles on it myself but to each thier own. I've never been in a torsion style suspension vehicle that had the keys cranked that actually rode halfway descent.

I call them Autozobies... with out a part number... they have no braynz.

Looks good. But your going to rub so be prepared. If you haven't already, when you hit a big dip in the road you will hear a nasty scratching sound. I dunno how the plastic flares will hold up to tire rub, but I would think that they would get torn off. Jon had to roll my front fenders for a 2'' drop in the front of mine cause of rubbing/crazy ex girlfriending my front tires. the wide tires do that.
