Thread: No Brakes!!!

    Exclamation No Brakes!!!

Brakes went out on my truck yesterday while my brother was driving. It's a broken brake line and the fluid sprayed everywhere. I have a couple of questions before I tackle this in the driveway.

What diameter/length brake line would my truck have 2000 5.3l 4x4 extended cab?

Is there anything else I should watch out for while I am doing this? Seems pretty straight forward; Old line off, new line on, bleed the system.

Any special tools required, I talked to my parts shop they sell lengths of brake line with the fittings pre-attached.

    1/4 inch line

    2 5 ft (60'') sections

    1 double flare union

Flaring tool maybe, think ends of factory lines might be different.

Might be like mine, very sharp bend going into the abs pump, be careful not to pinch when making bend.

Was rusty too, so i cut line flat with fitting and used a ratchet to break free old line. (yes smashed hand on frame, felt great!)

Need a stuby 5/8, or was it 9/16, wrench for reassemble cause it is tight in there.

You have to make all the lines including the flares. No one offers the hard lines for CYA reasons. Most wrecking yards won't sell hard chassis lines. You need some pretty good double and bubble flaring tools and some line wrenches. It's 3/16's or 4mm in most cases.
