Thread: Programming a 1997

    Hi---I am brand new to this forum. I just purchased a 1997 Silverado with a 5.7 and was wondering if anyone knows what software is available to program the PCM. I have been using LS1-edit since it was first released and have done well over 300 tunes plus I work part time at a shop with a chassis dyno, but this has all been on LS-1 or LS-6 motors. Would like to know if anything is available for my "new" 1997. Don't mention Hypertech, I have seen what they change in a pcm and it ain't much.

    No Hitman. I asked Carputing, the people that make LT1 Edit and LS1 edit, and they said they don't have anything to support the 1997 trucks. But thanks for the quick reply.

    Hrm, well perhaps HP Tuners can help? They have a nice setup for the LS1 GenIII stuff too.

    I tried HPTuners and also the Predator site, bit no one seems to support the 1997 truck. I wonder if it would be possible to swap in a 1999 computer and tune that after upgrading it to 1999 specs with a Tech II?

    I am not that familiar with the 1997, YET, but I think I will be soon. I need to find the part number from a 99 and see if it is the same as the cars. I wonder if there is someone who has tried to make this swap, and how I could search for info on it.

    Wouldn't all the controls as well as calibrations be off between the model years too?

    I am sure all the calibrations would be off; but then I do have the LS1 Edit to make changes. I also use EASE as a diagnostic scanner which gives an abundance of information that is useful for tuning.

    If you have the means, I'd go for it.

    But would an LT1 PCM be easier to swap in versus a Gen III style one?
