How do i go about doing this? I want to send my bro in law a .38 snub nose revolver. Is there a law against this? I really don't want to go thru all the red tape just to send a gun somewhere.
thanks,
allen

take it apart and send it that way without any bullets. I dont see a problem, but then again, it IS taking a firearm into a federal building. (if you ship usps)
91 s10 - bagged and bodydropped...getting rebuilt
91 nissan - backhalfed and bagged
You may not have to take it in to a federal building. Take it apart, wrap it up, box it up and take it to one of those mr. parcel (or something like that) places and tel them you want to send it (either ups, or fed ex, or even regualr mail). Shouldn't be a problem, but then again I have never mailed a gun.

i thought abou the gun shop but i don't want them to be able to run the serial number, doh, lol
i may just send it in pieces one by one, i'll have to think about it,
it would be funny, he only gets the handle and hammer, "where's the rest of the gun" lol

A while back my dad sent his .270 Browning rifle to Browning to get the barrel replaced. I remember he called Browning as well as the post office concerning how to send it. He just sent it in reinforced cardboard tubing through the post office. Sending a pistol might be different concerning issues you may face. Just call a gun manufacturer like Browning, Winchester, etc. and the post office on how you should go about mailing it.

If you send it UPS it will be sent as a red order(i think thats what they call it). You will have to let them know what it is because i heard they run that shit through scanners. Taking it apart would be the best thing to do though. Even better would be to send the gun in different boxes. One box with the frame and the other with the cylinder. But as seperate items. This way it can not be labled as a complete or useable firearm. Hope this helps!Originally posted by farmtruc@May 15 2003, 08:27 PM

Oh yeah, and if you do send it seperate you dont have to tell them shit.
