    04 escalade??

Truck came in yesterday with a whine groan noise, first tech diag'd it as a front diff....not the brightest crayon in the box.....so the second tech went and drove it, diag'd it as the transfer case. We got a transfercase from LKQ, went and drove it, seemed to fix the noise but now we have a bit of a low low growl only under light acceleration... anything under hard acceleration and all you hear is motor.. second tech did find a bit of play in the front diff pinion and tightend it up a bit.....any ideas????

Yeah...sounds like the front pinion angle is set wrong. If it is all lined up correctly (with a new transfer case), then there should not be a low growl. Maybe there is something wrong with the front diff-or the wheel bearings up front??? IDK...just throwing out ideas...

Pinion angle is not adjustable. This is a rigid mounted diff.

Front diff side bearings are very common on these. I had to replace mine. The tabs op the adjusters break or bend back and the adjusters loosen. At that point there is no side bearing preload and the bearings fail. If left unrepaired, the metal filings from the side bearings fail the ring and pinion gears as well as the pinion bearings.

I've heard these transfer cases have noise too but I never get any complaints and there's nothing wrong with mine.

The only other fix I've heard is a new design front propeller shaft. I was not able to find a bulletin and I've only heard this secdond hand.

Also make sure the tires are the same size AND brand.

Yeah--that is why I suggested them. Like I said...just throwing out ideas...

thanks for the input fellas. After callin the delivering dealership and finding out some of the service history on it, the customer had takin it to another dealership here in town for the same noise and they had diag the noise as the front diff, and declined the repairs there, also he failed to mention that to us. Also after drainin the old t-case we found alot of metal shavings in the fluid, so i think we we fighting both the diff and the t-case. So now that we have a semi new t-case in it, and a rebuild kit for the front diff on the way we'll see how she drives.
