    Flywheel Question

IS anyone running a older manual behind a 5.3? I am starting to gather parts for a 5.3 swap and will be running a 465 transmission in my truck, do i just need to run a spacer on the flywheel or do i need to get a custom flywheel?

ive found an advance adapters kit,but looking for a more off the shelf way to do this.

    which flywheel are you using?
i think part of the issues is the older style sm4654 trans sets back away from the engine farther.still digging for info.
    thanks

the tranny is a sm465 toploader transmission, has a ultra low granny gear and then a 3 speed w/rev.its a cast iron case
used in 1/2 thru 1 ton chevy trucks from somewhere in the late 60's early 70's thru late 80's.
ive got the flywheel spacer to use a th350 or th400 behind the 5.3 but now im going with this manual trans setup.
    thanks

flywheel spacer for th350? not sure what ur talkin about, is it for the flexplate? The tranny i have is same spec as the old muncies and most all gm trannys so im pretty sure it will work in your application. i got the bell housing from keisler, along with the pilot bearing, whatever flywheel you want, i used a dual friction centerforce clutch and pp for an 02+ camaro, and you just mount the fly wheel, clutch and pp, and put the bell on the block and measure the distance from the tranny mounting surface to the clutch fingers, then call mcleod for the right hyd t/o bearing. or if using mech linkage the its easier, just adjust linkage. bell housing has provisions for both. hope this helps, with the right bell you should not need any spacers..... im pretty sure....

i just thought about your input shaft, im sure its prob a 10 spline, not a fine spline........ so the clutch disc would need to be for that shaft, but same pp.

yes ,mine is a 10 spline input.
the spacer im talking about is used on ls motors and th350 or th400 autos.it goes between the flywheel/flexplate and toruqe converter.
with the bellhousing and tranny bolted up,my tranny input shaft is about 1/2 inch away from seating into piolot bushing area.the flywheel is closer to the back of the block on a ls motor vs and old school small block, thus needing the spacer on the tranny side of the flywheel,in order for the snout of the torqur converter to ride in.like i said the spacer is designed for autos, but looks like my manual trans needs a similar setup???
i called advance adapters, after tech talking,i feel a little better about the kit they sell.but still havnt decided.heres the link:

the input shaft sits in the pilot bearing which is in the crank for a standard/ flywheel application, a spacer will do no good for that. the crank will be in the same place.
