another new guy from fort worth

i just became the owner of an 08 gmc crew cab about a month ago and i said i wasnt going to do anything to it but the bug is starting to itch. it is a 5.3 2wd texas edition with the factory 20's. im no newbe to modded trucks, i have always had chevys and gmcs except my last truck was a dodge cummins that dynoed almost 500hp. im live in benbrook for the guys that know where thats at. i was wondering what type of mods i could do and still be reliably and driveable. im not really looking for 1000hp or to run 10's but i would like a little more power and maybe win a few stoplght battles. also would like to try not to void the warranty just yet. just wanted to say whats up and see if there is anything going on aroung town anytime soon.

Welcome! I doubt you will be happy with any mods that will not void your warranty. A tune, CAI and exhaust upgrade will get you started. If you really want that beast to run you will have to get a turbo or supercharger and a stall converter. Getting a CC with 20's and only a 5.3 to push it around are some real tough things to overcome. Glad to have you here.

welcome....GMCwantsLS1 hit the nail on the head...CC with a 5.3 will be difficult to get into the 10's, but look at some of the articles...there is a wealth of knowledge on this site...

i may be smoking something but i though i have hear something about magnacharger being approved by dealerships if installed there? any one know? what about like a cam? can they tell you have it in there, do you have to run a tune with a cam? also what about nitrous, like a wet system that you could remove if needed, are the intrenals strong enough to hold how big of a shot? warranty will be out some day so i need to do some research because it sucks to by parts to only upgrade it later. thanks for your help, im not really up to date since i was in the diesel world for a while.

also with tunes and ecm do you have to worry about key cycles being reset and vin #'s getting extra #? alot of the diesel tuners could be found by dealerships easy

I don't follow the diesel's so I don't know what you mean, but I am going to have to say no problems with that. The dealer can simply watch what the truck does and if they were really on top of things they might see that the timing goes higher that normal, or the speed limiter doesn't work. That is the only way they might have a clue that tuning has been tampered with. I have read that you can get some kind of extended warranty with the Radix system although I don't know any details. A cam wild enough that the dealer doesn't notice would be a mild cam. With tuning, mild stall, mild cam, CAI, gears, locker, and exhaust, you might be able to reach your goal.
